After meeting virtually for the past three years, we are excited to get together once this year with special guest Dr. Michael Rensing, President of MJ Rensing Consulting Inc., and former Executive Director of the Low Carbon Fuels Branch of the B.C. Government.

Join us for this special social networking event at Devil’s Elbow Ale & Smokehouse. Doors open at 5 PM, and the presentation starts at 6 PM.

On Thursday, October 20th, 2022, BC Bioenergy Network announced three recipients of the 2022 BC Bioenergy Sector Award during the virtual ceremony. The awards were presented for outstanding leadership and contribution to the bioenergy sector in British Columbia.

BCBN is Requesting Your Nomination for the BC Bioenergy Sector Awards
We are seeking nominations for leaders who have made meaningful contributions to advance the bioenergy sector in B.C. Please complete this short form to nominate an individual who has made a positive impact in these categories: Researcher (Academia), Champion (Government/Non-Profit), and Changemaker (Industry/Entrepreneur).

 

The awards ceremony will take place on Bioenergy Day on October 20th, 2022, hosted by BC Bioenergy Network. Registration details will be provided soon.

BC Bioenergy Network partnered with FortisBC and the Government of British Columbia to explore the potential production of renewable and low carbon gases in B.C. and beyond. By 2050, the province’s gas system could be completely supplied by made-in-B.C. renewable and low carbon sources.

Our November Special Guest was Stefan Muller, President of Vyterra Renewables; and Senior Vice President, Project Engineering at Ensyn Corporation. Stefan’s presentation was titled “Accelerating Decarbonization” on Tuesday, November 23rd.

The report is fifth in a series commissioned annually by Advanced Biofuels Canada and independently authored by Navius Research. It provides an evaluation of Canadian renewable and low carbon fuel policies and their impact on fuel consumption, greenhouse has (GHG) emissions reduction, and consumer costs.

The CICE was founded by the Government of British Columbia, Government of Canada and Shell Canada and will bring together innovators, industry, governments and academics to accelerate the commercialization and scale-up of B.C.-based clean energy technologies. It is also intended to be a catalyst for new partnerships and world-leading innovation to deliver near- and longer-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions.

The Province is contributing $2 million from the Innovative Clean Energy (ICE) Fund to support the engineering and design of a first-of-its-kind plant in Merritt to capture carbon dioxide and convert it to clean fuels, creating new jobs and economic opportunities in B.C.’s cleantech sector.

BC Bioenergy Network (BCBN), The Province, and FortisBC endeavour to determine the total supply potential of renewable and low carbon gases in British Columbia, and the cost of producing them. This analysis will inform the Provincial government’s CleanBC Roadmap to achieve the 2030 target and future actions by natural gas utilities.

Biomass Energy Network (BEN) and BC Bioenergy Network (BCBN) have partnered to present another panel discussion titled – “Clean Fuel Standard: Fueling Conversation”.

The discussion will take place from 9:00am – 12:00pm PST / 10:00am – 1:00pm MST on Wednesday, February 17th.

We are pleased to announce the two managers of the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Clean Fuel Standard (CFS), Lorri Thompson and Lauren Clarke will be participating in this event.

With the pending release of the Canadian National Hydrogen Strategy, BC Bioenergy Network (BCBN) is pleased to announce the completion of a business case analyzing potential hydrogen production by British Columbia’s (B.C.’s) pulp and paper sector.

BC Bioenergy Network (BCBN) has been following the recent developments regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).  As an organization that hosts events or participates in public meetings and other gatherings involving employees, contractors, and guests, BCBN is mindful of our responsibilities to not contribute to the potential spread of COVID-19.

As per the recommendations of the BC Government, BCBN is practicing social distancing and will work remotely for at least two weeks. We will replace or reschedule all face-to-face meetings with tele/videoconference meetings. The April meeting for the West Coast Bioenergy Guild will take place by way of videoconference in the morning instead of in the evening. We invite all those interested to tune-in if their schedule permits.
