Gasifier equipment re-commissioning to help UBC collaborate with industry
Project Profile:
A grant was provided to the Clean Energy Research Centre at The University of British Columbia to assist in the refurbishment and re-commissioning of their circulating fluidized bed gasifier.
The principal objectives of this project were to restore and improve the UBC gasifier to a point where it can be used by BC companies and the University for biomass gasification tests.
The facility was used to assess the gasification performance of different biomass feedstocks under the following tests:
1. Different operating conditions;
2. Co-feeding environment;
3. Gas quality changes; and
4. Influence of additives
Results:
The refurbishment of this equipment has augmented UBC’s gasification research activities at the Clean Energy Research Centre.
