Recently, Canfor announced the closure of its sawmill at Bear Lake in northern B.C., resulting in the loss of 400 jobs, and shelved plans to revive its pulp mill in Houston, B.C., which had previously led to the loss of 330 jobs. These job losses add to the estimated 10,000 jobs lost in 2023 due to a shrinking timber supply. Unfortunately, these losses are not isolated nor limited to a single company.
