Funding Sources
- BC Government Part 3 Agreements
- Part 3 Agreements promote innovation, diversity, and greater uptake of lower carbon transportation fuels. Projects and activities supported by Part 3 Agreements must reduce GHG emissions resulting from the use of Part 3 fuels. Part 3 Agreements help fuel suppliers undertake actions that are not otherwise economically viable, and that will help create future pathways for compliance with the Renewable and Low Carbon Fuel Requirements Regulation.
- Clean Fuels Fund
- An investment of $1.5 billion over five years to establish a Clean Fuels Fund, to de-risk the capital investment required to build new or expand existing clean fuel production facilities (including facility conversions). Support is also available for feasibility and front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies, and the establishment of biomass supply chains to improve logistics for the collection, supply, and distribution of biomass materials (e.g., forest residues, municipal solid waste, and agriculture crop residues) as a feedstock in clean fuel production facilities. Resources are also available to address gaps and misalignment in codes, standards and regulations related to the production, distribution and end-use of clean fuels.
- Green Municipal Fund
- The Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund provides loans and grants, builds capacity and shares knowledge to support municipal governments and their partners in developing communities that are more environmentally, socially and economically sustainable. It is the only national fund that specifically addresses the needs of municipal governments and their partners. Its range of financial solutions, resources, expertise and services supports infrastructure initiatives that improve the quality of our air, water and soil and reduce greenhouse gases. It supports projects from the early stages of project design up to and including the physical implementation of capital projects.
- FCC

- FortisBC Clean Growth Innovation Fund
- An annual fund of $4.9 million to support innovative energy projects, in partnerships with government and industry to reduce customers’ emissions by 30 per cent by 2030.

- Natural Gas Innovation Fund
- NGIF Capital is a Canadian venture capital firm offering grant and equity financing for cleantech startups with solutions for the gaseous energy sector. NGIF Capital is unique as it brings Canada’s energy industry leadership to every investment taking startups and their ideas from concept to commercialization. NGIF Capital operates Industry Grants (the original Natural Gas Innovation Fund), the Emissions Testing Centre, and Cleantech Ventures.
- Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)
- Funds visionaries, explorers and innovators who are searching for the scientific and technical breakthroughs that will benefit Canada. NSERC is Canada’s largest supporter of discovery and innovation. NSERC works with universities, colleges, businesses and not-for-profits to remove barriers, develop opportunities and attract new expertise to make Canada’s research community thrive. NSERC gives Canadian scientists and engineers the means to go further because of the belief in research without borders and beyond frontiers.

- The National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) is Canada’s leading innovation assistance program for small and medium-sized businesses.
- Scientific Research and Experimental Development Tax Incentive Program
- The Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Tax Incentive Program is a federal tax incentive program, administered by the Canada Revenue Agency that encourages Canadian businesses of all sizes and in all sectors to conduct research and development (R&D) in Canada. It is the largest single source of federal government support for industrial R&D. The SR&ED program gives claimants cash refunds and/or tax credits for their expenditures on eligible R&D work done in Canada.

SDTC’s mission is to act as the primary catalyst in building a sustainable development technology infrastructure in Canada. SDTC works closely with an ever-growing network of stakeholders and partners to build the capacity of Canadian clean-technology entrepreneurs, helping them form strategic relationships, formalize their business plans and build a critical mass of sustainable development capability in Canada. SDTC has two funds: The SDTC Tech Fund and the NextGen Biofuels Fund. The $550M SD Tech Fund™ is aimed at supporting the late-stage development and pre-commercial demonstration of clean technology solutions: products and processes that contribute to clean air, clean water and clean land that address climate change and improve the productivity and the global competitiveness of the Canadian industry. The $500M NextGen Biofuels Fund™ is aimed at supporting the establishment of first-of-kind commercial scale demonstration facilities for the production of next-generation renewable fuels and co-products.
