The Capital Regional District, in collaboration with FortisBC and Waga Energy Canada, commenced production of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) at the Hartland Landfill—the first RNG facility on Vancouver Island. The $32 million facility uses Waga Energy’s WAGABOX® technology to capture landfill gas and inject it into FortisBC’s distribution system. The facility is designed to produce up to 360,000 gigajoules of RNG annually, potentially reducing the region’s greenhouse gas emissions by 475,000 tonnes of CO₂ over 25 years—the equivalent of removing 105,000 homes’ worth of emissions.
