B.C. Strengthens Biofuels Sector with Canadian Content Requirements

The Province of British Columbia is amending regulations under the Low Carbon Fuels Act to prioritize Canadian-produced biofuels in transportation fuels. Effective January 1, 2026, the 5% renewable content requirement for gasoline must be met with biofuels produced in Canada. For diesel, the renewable content requirement will increase from 4% to 8%, with the mandate that, starting April 1, 2025, this content must also be sourced domestically. These changes aim to support local producers, stabilize the biofuels market, and reduce reliance on imported fuels.
