Canada’s biofuels sector hit new highs in 2024. Ethanol use rose to 4.2 billion litres, and biomass-based diesel reached nearly 1.5 billion litres. These fuels achieved carbon intensities up to 86% lower than fossil fuels, cutting national GHG emissions by 13.3 million tonnes. Biofuel blending also reduced wholesale fuel costs by $1.25 billion. Policy stability remains essential to keep this momentum going.
