European Green Deal: New Law Agreed to Cut Aviation Emissions by Promoting Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)

The EU reaches an agreement on ReFuelEU Aviation proposal to decarbonise aviation sector by requiring fuel suppliers to blend increasing amounts of SAF with kerosene. This will reduce CO2 emissions by around two-thirds by 2050 and provide other environmental benefits. The new rules will require aviation fuel suppliers to provide a minimum share of SAF at EU airports, aircraft operators to refuel only with necessary fuel, and airports to ensure their fuelling infrastructure is fit for SAF distribution.
