Heathrow announced it will target sustainable aviation fuel uptake 2 percent above the U.K.’s 3.6 percent SAF mandate in 2026, potentially bringing total SAF use at the airport to 5.6 percent, or approximately 350,000 tonnes. Backed by more than £80 million in airline support, the incentive aims to narrow the price gap between conventional jet fuel and SAF while accelerating aviation decarbonization. The airport also signalled a longer-term goal of reaching 11 percent SAF use by 2030, exceeding the national mandate.
