Made in Ontario: CHAR Technologies Is Building Up Biocarbon

CHAR Technologies advanced commissioning at its Thorold Renewable Energy Facility in Ontario, targeting an initial production rate of 5,000 tonnes of biocarbon per year while converting woody biomass residuals into low-carbon materials for steelmaking. Supported by $2.25 million from Ontario’s Forest Biomass Program, the project strengthens markets for forest residuals, supports industrial decarbonization, and is expected to expand in Phase 2 with additional biocarbon capacity and renewable natural gas integration.
