Minneapolis to Open North America’s First City-Operated Biochar Facility

Minneapolis will become the first city in North America to own and operate a biochar facility. Set to process 3,000 tons of wood waste annually, the plant will produce over 500 tons of biochar, which will help remove nearly 3,700 tons of CO₂ each year. The project aligns with the city’s Climate Equity Plan, highlighting the role of urban infrastructure in climate action.
