Ontario Invests $2.25M to Expand CHAR Tech’s Biocarbon Operations

Following progress at its Thorold Renewable Energy Facility, CHAR Technologies received $2.25 million from the Government of Ontario’s Forest Biomass Program to scale up commercial biocarbon pellet production. The funding supports enhancements in storage and transport for industrial users like ArcelorMittal Dofasco and aims to create four new jobs while supporting six existing roles. Once fully operational, the facility will convert 75,000 tonnes of woody biomass annually into biocarbon and renewable natural gas, offering a much-needed outlet for forest sector residuals and advancing low-emission solutions for heavy industry.
