Calgary Company Considering Northern B.C. as Potential Site of Biomass Diesel Manufacturing Plant

Calgary-based Expander Energy is evaluating northern British Columbia as a potential site for a new biomass-to-diesel facility. The company is concluding a federal Clean Fuels Fund–supported feasibility study to identify optimal locations, with Prince George, Fort St. John, and Fort St. James among the areas under consideration. The proposed plant would utilize forest residues and renewable electricity to produce low-carbon synthetic diesel using Expander’s patented gasification and Fischer-Tropsch technologies. CEO Gord Crawford highlighted the region’s abundant fibre supply, skilled workforce, and supportive provincial policies as key advantages.
